Our client, an innovative engineering company working on advanced electrification technologies, is looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join its growing software and controls team.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on the design, development, and validation of embedded software for real-time systems used in applications such as battery management, power conversion, and electric vehicle technologies. You will play a key role in driving software quality, architecture, development standards, and technical delivery across complex engineering projects.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Design, develop, and test embedded software platforms for real-time control systems.
  • Lead the development of low-level and application-layer software for microcontroller-based products.
  • Create modular, scalable, and reusable software architectures and components.
  • Develop embedded software using C/C++ and Assembly.
  • Implement and maintain device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and communication interfaces.
  • Work with communication protocols including CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet.
  • Support firmware update mechanisms and software integration activities.
  • Translate system requirements into detailed software specifications and designs.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, mechanical, validation, and manufacturing teams.
  • Produce and maintain software architecture and design documentation.
  • Execute unit, integration, and system-level testing activities.
  • Apply coding standards and quality processes to ensure robust and maintainable software.
  • Support software version control, configuration management, and release processes.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Support hardware bring-up, integration, debugging, and validation activities.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and technical stakeholders when required.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in embedded software development.
  • Strong experience designing and developing embedded software for real-time systems.
  • Advanced programming skills in:
    • C
    • C++
    • Assembly
  • Experience with embedded microcontroller platforms.
  • Solid understanding of communication protocols:
    • CAN
    • LIN
    • SPI
    • I2C
    • UART
    • Ethernet
  • Experience with software architecture, requirements engineering, and technical documentation.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in embedded environments.
  • Experience with version control systems, including Bitbucket.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices for embedded software development.
  • Familiarity with software quality standards and coding guidelines such as MISRA-C.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel when required and collaborate with clients on-site.
